Alicia DeBrincat

Alicia DeBrincat (born 15 May 1979) is an American artist who lives and works in New York City. Her figurative oil painting is known for its engagement with the human body and its exploration of awkward and potentially destructive social dynamics.

DeBrincat was born in San Francisco, California and studied at the University of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon, where she received her B.A. in English and Spanish Literature in 2001. She began exhibiting her painting in 2005, and has participated in shows in galleries and artspaces throughout the country, including La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles, Altered Esthetics Gallery in Minneapolis, Mast Cove Gallery in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Femina Potens Art Gallery in San Francisco.

In 2007, she received a grant from The George Sugarman Foundation for her series entitled Culture Corset, which examines how individual identity and societal expectations play out on the terrain of the body. That same year, she was awarded an Honorarium from the City of Berkeley, California. DeBrincat earned her Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in 2009 from San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, CA. She is currently a Masters of Fine Arts candidate at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City.
